How to Care for Your Handmade Candles: A Complete Guide

Welcome candle lovers! Your handmade ParAzar Designs candles are crafted with premium ingredients and care, and with proper maintenance, they'll burn beautifully for hours. This guide covers essential care tips to maximize burn time, prevent tunneling, and keep your candles looking pristine.

The First Burn Matters
The first burn sets the tone for your candle's entire life. Allow your candle to burn for at least 1-2 hours until the wax melts completely to the edges. This creates a full melt pool and prevents tunneling, where wax builds up along the sides. For our glass candles like the Citrus Whip and Velvet Cherry, this step is especially important. Never blow out your candle before achieving this full melt pool on the first burn.

Trim Your Wick Every Time
Before each burn, trim the wick to 1/4 inch using wick trimmers or clean scissors. This simple step prevents excessive smoke, reduces soot buildup, and promotes an even burn. Remove any "mushrooming" or carbon buildup at the wick's tip. For our specialty candles like the Cactus Garden and Petal Bloom, proper wick maintenance ensures the beautiful design stays visible.

Safe Burning Practices
Safety comes first with candle care. Never burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time, as the candle becomes too hot and begins evaporating fragrance oil faster. Place candles on heat-resistant, stable surfaces and keep them at least 12 inches away from flammable objects like curtains, paper, and plants. Never leave burning candles unattended, and always extinguish them before sleeping or leaving home. Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.

Extinguishing Your Candle
Use a candle snuffer to gently smother the flame rather than blowing it out, which can cause wax splatter. If you don't have a snuffer, blow softly from the side, not directly above. Never use water to extinguish a candle. Stop burning when wax reaches 1/2 inch from the bottom of the container.

Storage and Cleaning
When not in use, store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use tweezers to remove larger debris from cooled wax, then wipe the container with a dry towel to remove soot and fingerprints. This keeps your ParAzar candles looking beautiful between burns.
